Writer's Block

I'd like to start by apologising for the lack of posts lately. Unfortunately I've had no computer since Thursday thanks to my hard drive deciding to kapput on me. I'm back now though :-D

This poem is for Jingle Poetry Potluck. We had to base it on a song that is inspiring to us. This one isn't a widely approved of song: Eminem - Run Rabbit Run (From the 8 Mile album). Yet what he talks about (if you can keep up with the pace) is of how: "Some days I just wanna up and call it quits, I feel like I'm surrounded by a wall of bricks" referring to "writer's block". Yet he talks about his ability in it's absence with lyrics such as: "I'm gonna make you hate me 'cos you ain't me" speaking to other rap artists.

A lot of people don't appreciate rap music because of the language but if you listen carefully (more in the past than now) there is a lot of wisdom there. Rap is just another form of poetry.

Another line from the same album but a different song (Lose Yourself) is on the image below. It says:

"If you had one shot, or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted, and one moment. Would you capture it, or just let it slip?"

Can't think
There's a block
There's a writer in here
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know he'll appear

When inspiration
Comes along
Hits me hard on the head
Then words will flow
From my soul
A being I once thought was dead

Emotions turn to words
Thoughts turn to page
In a moment my mind has shifted
It's now gone
I've been saved
My writer's block has been lifted

If you like it please share it. Thanks.

  1. Writer's block ...the invisible anti-Muse! And what an unwelcome presence she can be! Great little poem!

  7. I think you did a good job with this, as I read I could hear the rap beat. And I like your explanation.

  10. o! I know that pain. We seek and await and she plays with us. I think she loves leaving us yearning for her then comes the release :)
