When sadness rules your heart...

This is inspired by the whole idea that some people who get named as heartless because they don't seem bothered by things. There is a reason for it.

No laughter
No love
No smiling
No joy
When sadness rules your heart

No tears
No weeping
No sobbing
No sorrow
When sadness rules your heart

When happiness is void in your life
When sadness rules your heart
Your ability to act out deep emotions
Is forgotten; true joy and true grief
You've forgotten how to cry

Emotion is energy
True joy is it's high
True sorrow it's low
Yet when joy is unknown
You'll never know how to grieve
Life's abysmal lows

  1. Sadness is emptiness. Even sorrow is just a form of joy and joy is a form of sorrow. Kahlil Gibran says-
"Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.

And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.

And how else can it be?

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

Is not the cup that hold your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?

And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."

But real, true sadness is none of those. It's a dreadful kind of lack of feeling.
I like the way you've arrived at the truth of the matter.

  4. This is deep.
Sadness can cause us to become numb to other emotions.

  5. I often get marked as insensitive and cold which is baffling to me because I feel so much inside and I try to express it outside. Fantastic poem!
